The Fumbo Stool is a carved outdoor stool handcrafted in Kenya. Its body is worked into rows of raised diamond facets that spiral around the drum, a pattern that reads as pineapple skin from a distance and as disciplined hand-carving up close. Each facet catches light on one plane and holds shadow on the next, so the surface changes as you walk past it. The carving runs continuously, with no visible seams interrupting the pattern. The stool is shaped from timber and finished in a warm reddish-brown tone that lets the grain show through on the smoother areas. The top is a flat disc with a gently scalloped edge, cut wide enough to serve as a small surface. Below the faceted body, a turned collar steps down into a broad circular base carved with a ring of upright petals, giving the piece a low, planted stance. Use the stool as extra seating on a veranda or terrace, or leave it beside a lounge chair as a perch for a glass and a book. A pair reads well flanking a doorway or at the foot of a daybed. Indoors it works in a hallway, beside a bath, or as a plant stand where the carved sides are worth seeing from every angle. Sculptural stools like this one belong to a long Kenyan tradition of carving single, solid forms rather than assembling parts. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to the workshop that shaped it, and to the hand that decided where each facet fell.
