The 5 by 6 Four-Poster Bed is a metal bed frame handcrafted in Kenya. The frame is built from straight bar sections that meet at clean right angles, then softened by four tall turned posts at the corners. The headboard carries a fanned motif at its centre, drawn in curved metal over a warm timber panel. It is a piece assembled by hand, and the small variations in the ringed detailing on each post are part of that. Metal forms the structure of this bed. The dark framework is set out in a grid of horizontal rails across the footboard and repeated along the top of the headboard, with visible bolt heads left plain rather than hidden. The turned posts and the inset headboard panel bring a reddish-brown timber tone against the darker metal, and the two arcs of the fan pattern give the headboard its focal point. The bed suits a main bedroom with room to read the height of the posts, and it works against a pale wall where the dark lines register clearly. Pair it with low timber bedsides, linen bedding in neutral tones and a woven floor covering to keep the base of the room soft. Lamplight on either side warms the timber.
