Coffee Table
Handcrafted by Fahari homes in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Kilifi Coffee Table is a marble-and-board coffee table handcrafted in Kenya. It pairs a substantial stone top with a low, grounded base, so the piece reads as both a surface and a quiet centrepiece. Each veined slab is different, which means no two of these tables carry the same pattern. The top is marble, marked with soft grey veining that drifts across a paler ground. The base is built from board in a light, washed tone, its rectangular form broken by an open display shelf and a contrasting dark drawer fitted with slim metal pulls. The result is a layered composition of stone, pale wood and a single darker band, resting on low rounded feet. This coffee table sits low and wide, made for the middle of a seating arrangement. The marble surface holds books, a bowl and a vase without fuss, while the open shelf keeps a few volumes within reach and the drawer hides what you would rather not see. It settles comfortably on a textured rug, between a linen sofa and a wooden sideboard. Kamara works with Kenyan makers who build furniture by hand, one piece at a time. Buying this table means buying something shaped by a person rather than a machine line, with the small variations that come from real craft. You are supporting a maker whose skill lives in the finished object.
