Bombo Dining Table
Handcrafted by By Faith Furnitures in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Bombo Dining Table is a square dining table handcrafted in Kenya with a marble top and a metal-reinforced base. It is shown here as a four-seater set, the table flanked by slat-back chairs with upholstered seats in a soft oatmeal tone. The proportions are compact and deliberate, built for a room where the dining area sits close to the living space. The top is marble, cut square with a clean profile and a polished, light-reflecting surface. Beneath it, a dark-stained timber apron carries a central pedestal composed of narrow vertical slats, which repeat in the tall backs of the chairs. Metal is used within the structure of the base. The rhythm of thin uprights against the flat stone plane is the whole idea of this dining table: solid above, open and airy below. Four chairs draw in close, so the set works in an apartment dining corner, a compact kitchen or an open-plan room where a larger rectangle would crowd the floor. Set on a woven rug and near a window, the pale top bounces daylight back into the room. It suits daily breakfasts, laptop mornings and small dinners equally. Kenyan furniture making has long combined imported stone with locally worked timber and metal, and that mix is visible here in the join between polished surface and hand-finished frame. Buying through Kamara means the piece comes from a named workshop rather than an anonymous production line, with the small variations that hand assembly leaves behind.
