Sabuko Nesting Coffee Table
Handcrafted by By Faith Furnitures in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Sabuko Nesting Coffee Table is a marble and metal coffee table handcrafted in Kenya. It is built as a set: one round central table with three wedge-shaped companions that slide underneath to close the circle. The metalwork is shaped and joined by hand, and each stone top is cut and seated to follow the curve of the frame it rests on. The tops are marble, pale and lightly veined, with soft grey and warm golden lines running across the polished surface. No two panels carry the same pattern. The bases are metal in a warm golden tone, drawn as slim open frames with a curved foot rail and angled struts that leave the structure visible rather than hidden. Seen together, the four pieces read as one round form. This coffee table sits comfortably in a living room, alongside a low sofa or an armchair, on a rug or on bare floor. The smaller sections pull out when guests arrive and become side surfaces for cups, books or a lamp, then return under the main top when the room is quiet again. Light moves across the polished stone through the day. Kamara works with makers across Kenya who build furniture piece by piece rather than by the batch. Buying here means the object comes from a named workshop tradition of stone and metal work, and that the hand of the person who made it remains legible in the finished table.
