Bahari Ottoman Table
Handcrafted by Veronica furniture in 009, Karen, Nairobi, Kenya
The Bahari Ottoman Table is a square upholstered ottoman table handcrafted in Kenya. Its surface is divided into narrow vertical channels that run up one side, across the top and down the other, so the ribbing reads as one continuous line. The corners are rounded rather than boxed, which softens the whole silhouette. Every seam has been set by hand, and the rhythm of the channels is close enough to catch light along each ridge. The form is low and generous, sitting close to the floor on a concealed base. Upholstery covers the piece entirely in a pale oatmeal tone, with a slightly textured, matte surface that takes on depth where the ribs turn. There is no hard edge anywhere on it. Seen from above, the top is broad and flat enough to hold a tray steady. This ottoman table works in front of a sofa as a soft alternative to a timber coffee table. A shallow tray turns it into a surface for books, a bowl or a small vase; without one, it becomes extra seating when a room fills up. It suits a living room with a rug underfoot, and it is forgiving in a space where children or guests move through often. Kenyan upholstery workshops have long built furniture to order, frame first and covering second, with the fabric worked by hand around the form. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to that practice and to the maker who carried it out.
