Chumvi Sectional Sofa
Handcrafted by Veronica furniture in 009, Karen, Nairobi, Kenya
The Chumvi Sectional Sofa is an L-shaped corner sofa handcrafted in Kenya. It is built as two upholstered runs that meet at a right angle, giving a living room a natural seating boundary without a wall. The making is unhurried: frames squared up, cushions filled and fitted, seams drawn straight along every edge. The sofa is upholstered in a textured grey-taupe fabric with a gentle slub across its surface, so the colour shifts slightly as light moves over it. Arms are wide, low and softly rounded, sitting almost level with the back cushions. Seat and back cushions are separate and generously filled, holding a relaxed line rather than a rigid one. Small tapered timber feet lift the base just clear of the floor, in a warmer tone than the upholstery. It suits a family sitting room, an open-plan living and dining space, or a wide apartment corner where two walls of seating make more sense than one. Set a low round coffee table within reach of both runs, layer a woven rug underneath, and add a pair of patterned cushions to break the neutral field. The pale palette reads well in rooms with generous daylight. Kenya's upholstery workshops have long combined joinery and hand-finished soft furnishing under one roof, and this sectional sofa comes from that tradition. Buying through Kamara means the piece was made by a named independent workshop rather than assembled anonymously, and that the money stays with the people who built it.
