The Madaraka Table Lamp is a mahogany table lamp handcrafted in Kenya. It takes the form of a small open cube, assembled from horizontal slats stacked one above the other and joined at the corners so the ends interlock. The corner detail is left visible rather than hidden, which is part of the character of the piece. Lit from within, the lamp reads less as a fixture and more as a small wooden object that happens to glow. Mahogany forms the frame, its grain running along each slat and shifting between deeper red-brown and lighter honey tones as the light passes through. The bars are set with even gaps, so the shade throws horizontal bands of light across whatever surface it sits on. A pale timber base lifts the cube slightly and gives the composition a clear footing. The surfaces are smooth, with a soft sheen that catches the glow at the edges. Set it on a coffee table beside a stack of books, on a console in a hallway, or on a bedside table where a full lamp would feel too tall. The slatted shade keeps the light low and directional, which suits evenings, reading corners and rooms where overhead lighting feels too flat.
