Dodori Wall Panel
Handcrafted by Modernbuild in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Dodori Wall Panel is a decorative board wall panel handcrafted in Kenya. The design begins with a single frond, drawn as a long spine with leaflets that lengthen and taper as they rise. Each leaflet is cut and placed by hand, so the spacing shifts slightly from one to the next and the whole motif keeps the irregular rhythm of a living plant rather than a printed pattern. The panel is made from board. The frond is cut in silhouette and raised over a pale backing that carries a fine vertical texture, catching light across its surface. A slim dark frame runs the full perimeter and holds the composition in a tall, narrow rectangle. Seen from an angle, the layered cut-out reads almost as a shallow relief, with soft shadow gathering along the edges of the leaflets. The tall proportion suits a narrow stretch of wall: beside a window, above a console, along a hallway where a wider piece would crowd. It works well in a covered outdoor room or a sheltered verandah, and equally well indoors. Pair it with a turned bowl, a stoneware vase, or a low stack of books to echo the dark-and-pale contrast in the panel itself. Botanical silhouettes are a long-running motif in Kenyan decorative work, where plant forms are simplified to their essential line. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to the Kenyan maker who cut and assembled this piece, and to a way of working where each panel is finished by hand.
