Sitatunga Fire Pit
Handcrafted by marimart
The Sitatunga Fire Pit is a freestanding outdoor fire pit handcrafted from metal in Kenya. Each piece is shaped and assembled by hand, and the surface carries the quiet variation of work done at the forge rather than the flat uniformity of a machine. Small marks and tonal shifts across the metal record how it was made. The fire pit is built from metal throughout. A deep, rounded bowl holds the fire and sits within a slender curved frame that rises to a domed hood, topped with a turned wooden handle for lifting. The frame stands on three legs that finish in soft outward scrolls. The dark, matte surface takes on a warm glow in firelight, and the open sides let the flame breathe and stay visible. This is a piece for a patio, courtyard or gravelled terrace, where it draws seating into a circle on a cool evening. It settles naturally beside a low timber table, a linen armchair or a potted olive, and the domed hood shelters the bowl while the fire burns low. Keep it on a stable, non-flammable surface and give it room on every side. Buying from a Kamara maker connects you to Kenya's long tradition of working metal by hand, where each fire pit is formed one at a time rather than pressed from a mould. The result is an object with the character of the hand that made it, and small differences from piece to piece are part of that story.
