Ofira Dining Table
Handcrafted by Kemu furniture in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Ofira Dining Table is a round pedestal dining table handcrafted in Kenya. Its form is deliberately traditional: a circular top carried on turned columns that rise from broad, sweeping feet. The silhouette reads as furniture made by hand rather than pressed from a template, with the small variations in profile that come from working timber one piece at a time. The table is built from a warm-toned timber with a mellow reddish cast, and the grain moves visibly across the top and down the turned uprights. The edge of the top is softly moulded rather than squared, and the surface carries a low sheen that catches window light without glare. The base groups several turned columns around a central support, and the curved feet spread outward to hold the whole piece steady on the floor. A round dining table suits rooms where people gather closely and conversation travels across the whole surface. This one works in a dining room set against panelled walls, in an open-plan kitchen corner, or under a single hanging light. It takes a linen runner and stoneware plates comfortably, and it holds books, post and morning coffee just as easily between meals. Kenyan furniture-making draws on a long working knowledge of solid timber and turned forms, and pieces like this one are shaped in small workshops rather than on production lines. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to that workshop tradition, and to a maker whose hand is legible in the finished piece.
