Sagana Coffee Table
Handcrafted by Faithfurniture in Upper savanah
The Sagana Coffee Table is a coffee table handcrafted in Kenya from board. It arrives with two low stools that tuck beneath the frame, so the set reads as one considered piece rather than three separate objects. The lines are deliberately plain: right angles, blocked corners, nothing carved or applied. That restraint is what makes the joinery visible, and the joinery is the ornament. The table is built from board in a deep reddish-brown tone, with a smooth, softly reflective surface that picks up light along the top edge. A shallow apron runs beneath the tabletop, and thick squared legs are braced by horizontal stretchers on all four sides. A small raised block sits at the centre of the long stretcher. The two stools repeat the same proportions in miniature, with the same stepped feet and open bracing. Set it in a living room over a woven rug, where the dark timber tone holds its own against pale upholstery and neutral walls. The stools pull out for extra seating when guests arrive and slide back when they leave. The tabletop takes books, a shallow bowl, a vase of cuttings, a coffee cup. Kenyan furniture-making leans toward this kind of directness: solid frames, honest structure, surfaces finished by hand. Buying through Kamara means buying from an independent Kenyan maker working at a small scale, where each piece passes through one workshop and carries the small variations that come with it.
