The Sesi Nesting Side Tables are a set of round nesting side tables handcrafted in Kenya from metal and marble. The three tiers stack into a single sculptural column, each one lifted on its own frame so the group reads as one object rather than three. The frames are shaped and finished by hand, and the small differences between them are part of the making. Each table combines a circular marble top with a metal base. The tops are pale and softly veined, with grey and warm bronze markings running across the stone in irregular lines, so no two surfaces repeat. The bases are built from grouped vertical rods in a gold-toned finish, ringed at the foot and again beneath each top, which gives the set a light, open silhouette. The stone sits flush inside a raised metal rim. Nested together, the tables take up little more room than a single side table beside a sofa or armchair. Pulled apart, they spread across a living room as landing places for a coffee cup, a stack of books, a lamp or a small plant. The reflective metal catches low afternoon light, and the cool stone tops sit well against upholstery, jute and timber.
