The Chaka Sofa is a curved upholstered sofa handcrafted in Kenya. Its crescent form is built up by hand, so the back sweeps in one continuous line from armrest to armrest without a break. Rolled edges and a low, generous seat give the piece the softness of something shaped rather than assembled. The sofa is upholstered in a nubbly, close-textured cover in a warm cream tone, with the fabric drawn smoothly around every curve and a single seam tracing the base. The seat cushion reads as one long, uninterrupted pad, and the arms rise gently at each end to hold it. A matching upholstered ottoman and two scatter cushions, one in a deeper toasted brown, are shown alongside it. Placed with its curve open to the room, this sofa works as a soft island in a living room or a lounge corner, facing a low round table rather than lining up against a wall. The rounded back reads well from behind, so it can float in an open-plan space. Pair it with a woven floor rug, plaster-toned walls and daylight from a large window. Kenya's upholstery workshops build shapes like this over hand-formed frames, judging each curve by eye. Buying from a Kamara maker means buying from that tradition directly: a piece made in a small workshop, by people who work with their hands, sold without the layers that usually sit between the bench and the room it ends up in.
