Ngong Sectional Sofa
Handcrafted by Edu"de" design furniture in 005Upper savannah nairobi
The Ngong Sectional Sofa is an L-shaped sectional sofa handcrafted in Kenya. It was built the slow way, seat by seat, with the frame squared and padded before a single panel of upholstery was drawn over it. The buttoning on the back cushions is set by hand, which is why each dimple sits a fraction differently from its neighbour. Nothing about the shape shouts; the appeal is in the restraint. The upholstery reads pale and softly textured, with a light flecking that catches the sun rather than reflecting it. Low track arms run flush with the seat line, and the back is made up of separate scatter cushions rather than a fixed roll, so the silhouette stays relaxed. Piped edges outline each cushion, and the whole body lifts clear of the floor on small turned feet in a warm mid-brown timber. This is a sofa for a room that gets used. The chaise return takes an afternoon nap or a stack of cushions and a book, while the straight run seats a group without pushing furniture around. It sits comfortably against panelled or plain walls, and works with a round timber coffee table, a jute rug and a lamp for evening light. Kenyan upholstery workshops have long combined joinery and hand-finishing under one roof, and that continuity is what Kamara exists to carry forward. Buying here means the piece came from a named workshop rather than a container, and the money stays close to the bench where the work happened.
