The Eferu Sofa is a two-seater sofa handcrafted in Kenya. Its curved back sweeps forward into low, rounded arms, a shape that takes patience to build and more patience to upholster cleanly. The seam lines follow the curve without breaking it, and the seat cushion sits flush inside the frame rather than perching on top of it. Two upholstery treatments meet on one piece. The inner back, arms and seat are covered in a densely textured, looped dark fabric that reads almost black in daylight. The outer shell and the front rail are a soft cream, worked in a diamond-quilted pattern that catches light across each stitched panel. Beneath, a slim horizontal rail in a warm brass tone runs the width of the sofa, carried on tapered dark legs that lift the whole body clear of the floor. This sofa suits a sitting room where space is measured, a wide landing, a reading corner beside a window, or the foot of a large bed. The raised legs keep a rug visible underneath and make sweeping simple. It pairs easily with a round coffee table and takes a pair of contrasting cushions well, as shown here. Kamara works with independent Kenyan makers who build furniture by hand, one piece at a time.
