Nyali Fourseven Dining Table
Handcrafted by Benmis furniture and fabricators in 005, Umoja, Nairobi, Kenya
The Nyali Fourseven Dining Table is a marble and metal outdoor dining table handcrafted in Kenya. It was built around a simple idea: a square top small enough to gather four people within arm's reach of one another. The proportions are compact and the silhouette is light, so the piece reads as furniture rather than as bulk. The top is marble, cut square with softly eased edges, its pale surface drifting with grey and amber veining that runs off-centre and never repeats. Beneath it, a metal pedestal splits into slim fluted uprights that fan out into four feet, giving the table a narrow footprint and leaving legroom clear on every side. The metalwork carries a warm bronzed tone that picks up the veining above it. Placed on a covered terrace or veranda, this dining table works for breakfast, long afternoons and evening meals alike. Indoors it settles into a breakfast corner or a smaller dining room, where four side chairs tuck close without crowding. A shallow tray, a low vase and a couple of glasses fill the surface without covering the stone. Kamara works with Kenyan makers who bring metalworking and stonework together in the same workshop, a pairing common to Nairobi's fabrication and finishing trades. Buying this table means buying directly into that skill, from the hand that shaped the base to the one that dressed the marble edge.
