The Dafubora Counter Stool is a counter stool handcrafted in Kenya from cypress and metal. The seat is cut square with softly eased edges, and a small rectangular slot is carved through its centre so the stool can be lifted with one hand. The proportions are deliberately spare, which keeps the piece quiet next to a worktop rather than competing with it. Cypress forms the seat, its grain running in long warm lines that shift from honey to deeper amber where the light falls. The metal frame is finished in black and built from four slender legs that splay very slightly outward, joined low down by straight stretchers on each face. Nothing is disguised: the joins between timber and metal read clearly, and the timber surface keeps a soft sheen that shows the grain rather than hiding it. This is a stool for a kitchen island, a breakfast counter or a high work table, and its open frame lets it tuck close when not in use. Two or three sit well in a row along a run of stone or timber counter. The carved hand-hold makes it easy to move between a kitchen and a covered terrace, and the compact footprint suits narrow galley layouts and apartment kitchens. Kenyan workshops have long built seating this way, letting solid timber and worked metal do the design work between them.
