The Oleweni Bed is a wooden bed handcrafted in Kenya from mahogany and blackboard. The frame is built around flat recessed panels, each one held inside a squared border that reads clearly from across the room. The corner posts rise slightly above the rails, a small decision that gives the whole piece a settled, deliberate stance rather than a floating one. Mahogany and blackboard make up the structure, finished in two tones: a soft off-white across the panels and inner frames, and a muted blue on the outer posts, top rail and edges. The painted surfaces are smooth and matte, so the outline of each panel is defined by shadow rather than by gloss. The headboard carries two panels side by side; the footboard repeats the detail at a lower height, keeping the proportions calm at both ends. This bed suits a child's or guest bedroom where painted furniture already sets the tone. It sits comfortably against a pale wall, with a small bedside table on one side and a rug running underneath to soften the floor. Linen bedding in stone and grey keeps the blue framing legible, and the low footboard leaves room for a throw to fold over the end. Painted joinery has a long history in Kenyan workshops, where timber is cut, assembled and finished by hand in small batches. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to that workshop practice, and to a bed made by someone who chose the panel spacing and the paint line themselves.
