The Sokoni Side Table is a glass side table handcrafted in Kenya. Its form is deliberately spare: two circles held apart by one upright, with nothing else added. The framing is cut and finished by hand, and the way the metal edge wraps each disc shows where a maker's attention went. Restraint of this kind is harder to achieve than ornament. The table is made with glass, set into a slim gold-toned metal surround that rings both the upper surface and the lower shelf. A single flat column runs between them, offset rather than centred, so the top tier reads as a small cantilever. The glass is dark and highly reflective, catching the room around it and the shadow of whatever sits on top. Small fixings are visible at the rim of the base, left plain rather than concealed. Placed beside a sofa or a deep armchair, this side table holds a cup, a book, a pair of glasses. The lower tier takes the things you want nearby but not underfoot. It is narrow enough to tuck against upholstery in a compact sitting room, and the reflective top keeps it visually light in a space with a lot going on.
