Ozuri Bedside Table
Handcrafted by blessed furnuture in 005 upper savannah, nairobi kenya
The Ozuri Bedside Table is a two-drawer bedside table handcrafted in Kenya from block board. It is built in the quiet tradition of cabinetry that is meant to be used every day rather than admired from a distance. The proportions are compact and upright, the kind that sit comfortably beside a bed without crowding it. Nothing about it asks for attention, which is precisely the point. Block board forms the carcass, drawer fronts and top. The surface is painted a soft off-white with a smooth, low-sheen finish, and each drawer front carries a recessed rectangular panel that gives the flat face a shadow line. A slim overhanging top reads as a tray, the body steps back beneath it, and a plinth base lifts the whole piece cleanly off the floor. The drawers run on metal runners and are fitted with small pale knobs. This is a bedside table first, sized for a lamp, a cup, a book and reading glasses on top, with the drawers taking notebooks, chargers, jewellery and the small things that accumulate at night. It also works as a side table beside an armchair, or in a hallway holding keys and post. The pale finish sits easily against timber floors, linen upholstery and green-painted walls. Kenyan furniture-making runs through small workshops where cabinetmakers cut, assemble and paint by hand, one piece at a time. Buying from a Kamara maker means your money reaches that workshop directly, and the piece you receive carries the marks of a person's judgement rather than a production line.
