Edaba Media Sideboard
Handcrafted by Glory furniture in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Edaba Media Sideboard is a low storage sideboard handcrafted in Kenya from board. It is built as a long, grounded case that sits on short tapered legs, lifting the body just clear of the floor. The louvred fronts are cut as a run of evenly spaced horizontal slats, a detail that gives the piece rhythm without ornament. The construction is board throughout, painted in a clean white that keeps the slat lines crisp and the shadow gaps legible. The layout is divided into three vertical bays: a hinged slatted door at each end, an open central compartment with a fixed shelf, and a smooth-fronted drawer that runs on metal slides. One side conceals a pull-out tray, and the flat top continues in an unbroken plane across the full width, with a slight overhang at the front edge. In a living room this sideboard works as a media console, with a television above it and a turntable, receiver and player arranged on the top and in the open centre. Records stand upright behind the louvred doors; discs and small accessories drop into the drawer. It also reads comfortably as a hallway or dining-room sideboard, holding books, a lamp and a small potted plant. Kenyan furniture makers have long worked in painted casework for everyday rooms, and this sideboard belongs to that practical tradition. Buying through Kamara means the piece comes from a named workshop rather than an anonymous production line, made in small numbers by people who cut and finished it themselves.
