Ofafa Storage Unit
Handcrafted by Glory furniture in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Ofafa Storage Unit is a children's storage unit handcrafted in Kenya from board. It was built as a single upright case, with the drawer bank set beside a narrow cupboard so that folded clothes, books and small treasures each get their own place. The proportions are deliberately compact, keeping a tall run of storage within a child's reach. The unit is made from board with a smooth white surface and clean, square edges. Four drawers of graduating depth sit to one side, each fitted with a slim horizontal bar handle in a brushed silver tone. The hinged door alongside opens to reveal fixed internal shelves, and a wider drawer runs the full width at the base. A flat top surface caps the piece and reads as a display ledge. A printed character panel decorates the cupboard door and a small motif sits on the upper drawer face. This storage unit suits a child's bedroom, where the low top can hold a lamp, a framed photograph and a stack of books while the drawers absorb everyday clothing. It works well against a painted wall beside a single bed, and the full-width bottom drawer is easy for small hands to pull open from a seated position on the floor. Kenya's furniture workshops have long built practical case goods for family homes, adapting simple joinery to the way rooms are actually lived in. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to a Kenyan maker's bench, and to a piece that was assembled by hand rather than pressed out anonymously.
