The Zambarau Nursery Dresser is a chest of drawers handcrafted in Kenya from board. It was drawn around the daily choreography of a baby's room, where storage has to be reachable with one hand. The proportions stay upright and compact, so the piece holds a lot without dominating a small room. Every drawer front is left plain, letting the round aged-brass knobs carry the detail. The carcass is made of board with a smooth painted surface in a soft, chalky white. Four deep drawers stack down the left side, a tall cupboard with a single door sits to the right, and two shallow drawers run across the base. The top is framed by a low back panel and shaped side guards, forming a shallow tray that holds a changing mat in place. Edges are gently rounded and the plinth feet lift the body clear of the floor. It works as a changing station in the early months and then simply as a nursery dresser once the mat comes off. The deep drawers take folded clothes and blankets, the shallow base drawers suit small items, and the cupboard holds taller bottles and boxes. Placed beside a cot, the top surface keeps essentials within arm's reach. Kamara works with Kenyan furniture makers who build in small runs rather than factory volumes. Buying this dresser means your money reaches the workshop that cut, assembled and painted it, and it means the piece was made by someone who will answer for the work.
