The Tatu Ridge Shelf is a tall open shelf handcrafted in Kenya from board. It is built as a simple upright case with horizontal tiers running the full width, a form that leaves the contents of each level fully in view. The restraint is deliberate: nothing about the frame competes with what is placed on it. Straight lines and clean edges do the work. The unit is made from board with a smooth, uniformly pale surface and squared edges. Shelves sit at regular intervals within a plain rectangular carcass, and the lower section includes a closed compartment behind a flat door alongside an open bay sized for a basket. There is no visible hardware on the front face, no moulding and no ornament — only flat planes and shadow lines where one level meets the next. Placed against a wall in a living room, this shelf holds books laid flat and upright, ceramics, framed pictures and trailing plants. Two units stand comfortably side by side to fill a longer wall. The pale finish reads softly in daytime light and keeps a corner from feeling heavy. The closed lower compartment takes the things you would rather not display. Kenyan makers have long worked board into practical, well-proportioned storage for homes across Nairobi and beyond.
