Sifa Ridge Shelf
Handcrafted by Africans furniture in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The Sifa Ridge Shelf is an open shelving unit handcrafted in Kenya from board. It is built as a single upright frame with five generous tiers, each one running the full width of the piece. A gently arched crest rises above the top shelf, pierced with two small round cut-outs — a quiet detail that softens an otherwise straight-lined form. The shelf is made from painted board in a clean white finish, with flat surfaces and squared edges throughout. The side panels are open and cross-braced, so light passes through the frame rather than stopping at a solid wall. Shelf spacing varies from tier to tier, with a taller lower bay sized for baskets and a shorter upper bay suited to upright books. The paint is even and matte, and the joins between shelf and upright sit flush. This is a shelf for rooms that need to hold a lot in plain sight. It works against a wall in a child's bedroom or playroom, in a study, or in a hallway where shoes and bags collect. Woven baskets slide onto the lower tiers to hide clutter; books, framed prints and plants take the upper ones. Placed near a window, the white surfaces bounce daylight back into the room. Kenyan makers have long worked painted board into practical, everyday storage. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to that workshop tradition, and to a piece assembled by hand rather than pressed out in volume.
