The Thika Study Desk is a study desk handcrafted in Kenya from cypress and card board. The photographed piece pairs a painted writing desk with a slatted-back timber chair, shown in a child's room where morning light falls across the floor. The proportions are modest and upright, drawn for a young person's first desk rather than an office. The desk is built from cypress with card board used in its construction, and finished in a soft white paint that keeps the surfaces calm and matte. A single pedestal of three drawers sits to the right, each fitted with a small round pull, and the opposite side stays open for legroom. The top has a gently eased edge. The accompanying chair is left in bare timber, its visible grain and pegged joints a deliberate contrast to the painted frame, with a dark cushioned seat. This is a working surface for homework, drawing and reading. It suits a bedroom wall beneath a shelf, a landing, or a quiet corner of a family room, and pairs easily with woven baskets, jute rugs and a low book rack. The drawers take pencils, notebooks and the small collected things that children keep. Place it near a window so the writing surface catches daylight.
