The Achanga Coffee Table is a round coffee table handcrafted in Kenya from board. Its shape is deliberately simple: a disc top, three sweeping curved supports, and a second disc below that grounds the whole piece. The curves are cut and smoothed so that the silhouette reads differently from every seat in the room. The table is made of board finished in a deep near-black tone, with a faint linear grain that catches the light across the top. Edges are gently rounded rather than sharp, and the joints where the curved legs meet the lower disc are left visible as small squared blocks. The lower shelf sits close to the floor, giving the table a low, settled stance and a second usable surface. In a sitting room it works at sofa height, close enough to set down a cup, a bowl, or a stack of books. The dark surface holds its own against pale upholstery and woven rugs, and the round form suits rooms where people move around the seating rather than past it. The shelf below is useful for magazines, remotes, a tray, or a small plant. Kenyan furniture making is a trade of workshops rather than factories, where a maker cuts, shapes and finishes a piece through to the last pass of abrasive. Buying a coffee table through Kamara connects you directly to that kind of workshop, and to a maker whose hand is legible in the curve of the legs and the evenness of the finish.
