The Dafina Nesting Side Tables are a set of four nesting side tables handcrafted in Kenya from cypress and board. Each table is built to the same quiet template and then scaled down in turn, so the four pieces slide together into a single compact form. The rounded edge profile on every top is worked by hand, and the shift in size from largest to smallest is the only ornament the set carries. The frames are made from cypress with board used in the construction, finished in a deep reddish-brown tone that lets the grain read across each rectangular top. Legs are square in section and taper gently towards the floor, braced low down with straight stretchers that sit close to the ankle of each table. Surfaces are smooth and softly reflective, catching light along the bullnosed edge where the tone deepens. Nested, the set occupies the footprint of one side table beside a sofa, holding a vase, a stack of books or a bowl. Pulled apart, the smaller tables travel to an armchair, a bedside, or the end of a dining bench when guests arrive and drinks need somewhere to land. The dark finish holds its own against pale upholstery, jute rugs and lighter oak cabinetry. Nesting tables are a long-standing staple of Kenyan workshops, where cypress is a familiar working timber and small-batch furniture is cut, assembled and finished under one roof.
