The Dala Armchair is a metal-framed accent chair handcrafted in Kenya. The curved back is built as a single sweeping shell, so the arms fall away from the shoulders without a visible join. Small decisions carry the piece: the run of the piping, the balance of the seat cushion, the way the frame meets the floor at only four narrow points. The base is metal, finished in a soft brushed gold tone, drawn into straight uprights and a gently arched stretcher that reads almost like a drawing beneath the seat. Above it sits the upholstered shell in a deep teal green, its pile catching light unevenly so the colour shifts between forest and sea depending on where you stand. Vertical seams divide the inner back into broad panels, and a plump cushion sits flush inside the curve. This chair works where a room needs one considered seat rather than a full suite. Place it beside a window with a side table for reading, angle a pair across a fireplace, or set it in a bedroom corner or a hallway that gets passed more than it gets used. The green holds its own against pale plaster, stone and natural-fibre rugs. Kenyan furniture-making moves between metal workshops and upholstery benches, and a chair like this passes through both.
