Kilifi Accent Chair
Handcrafted by Euroda Hardwood in 005, Umoja, Nairobi, Kenya
The Kilifi Accent Chair is an upholstered armchair handcrafted in Kenya. Its shell is built as one continuous curve, sweeping from a low arm up into a rounded back and down again, so the chair reads as a single gesture rather than a set of parts. The channel stitching across the backrest is spaced evenly by hand, and the piping that traces the rim follows the curve without a break. The frame is upholstered in a soft, slightly textured teal fabric that shifts between blue and green depending on where the light falls. Vertical channels give the back its rhythm; the seat is a single generous cushion with a gently rounded front edge. Four slim, tapered legs in a warm golden finish lift the shell clear of the floor, which keeps the silhouette light despite the depth of the seat. This is a chair that works on its own. Place it beside a window with a small side table for reading, angle a pair across from a sofa in a living room, or set one in a bedroom corner where a low armchair is more useful than another surface. The enclosing arms make it comfortable for long conversations, and the colour holds its own against neutral walls, timber shelving and pale rugs. Kenya's upholstery workshops combine frame-making, foam work and hand-finished stitching under one roof, often across a small team. Buying through Kamara means the maker is named, paid directly, and building to their own standard rather than to a catalogue specification.
