The Sokoni Dining Table is a metal dining table handcrafted in Kenya. It takes its cues from the busy eating houses and café corners where tables are wiped down, reset and used again within the hour. The proportions are deliberately plain, and the confidence sits in the colour rather than in ornament. The table is built from metal throughout. A rectangular top in bright red is finished with a rounded lip and a fine inset line traced just inside the edge, which reads as a border once the table is set. It rests on a single central column that opens into a four-armed base, tucked in at the centre of the floor so the legs stay clear of knees and chair frames. The black base and the red surface are the only two tones at work, and the surface reflects overhead light in a soft, even sheen. In a café or a small restaurant, this dining table seats a party along both long sides and turns over easily between services.
