The Setawa Bar Stool is a counter-height bar stool handcrafted in Kenya from cypress and metal. Each seat is turned to a shallow dish with concentric rings left visible at the centre, a record of the tool that shaped it. Small differences in grain and colour move from one stool to the next, so a row of them reads as a set rather than as copies. The seat is cypress, cut as a generous round with a softly rolled edge that sits comfortably behind the knee. Its surface carries a warm reddish-brown tone and open, flowing grain that darkens where the timber is densest. Four slender metal legs in a matte black finish splay outward and are tied together by a circular ring footrest, which doubles as a brace and keeps the silhouette light and open underneath. The stool is built for a kitchen island, a breakfast counter or a bar, where the backless form lets it tuck fully under an overhang and stay out of the walkway. Two or three in a line suit a long island; a single one works at the end of a run for morning coffee and the newspaper. The dark frame reads quietly against pale stone and warm timber cabinetry. Cypress is a familiar working timber in Kenyan workshops, and this bar stool reflects a local habit of pairing it with simple welded steel.
