5by6 Slatted Bed Frame
Handcrafted by Bency furniture in 005, Upper Savannah, Nairobi, Kenya
The 5by6 Slatted Bed Frame is a bed handcrafted in Kenya. Its structure is honest and legible: four squared corner posts, a horizontal rail system running the width of the headboard, and a matching grid at the foot. Nothing is hidden, and the way the parts meet is part of the design. The frame pairs warm reddish-brown timber posts with slim dark rails that stack in even horizontal runs. A single broad panel sits at the centre of the headboard, its grain reading clearly across the surface under a low-sheen finish. Visible fixings at the post joints are left exposed rather than concealed, and the footboard repeats the rail pattern in a tighter, lower arrangement that keeps the sightline open across the room. This bed frame suits a bedroom where light moves through the day. The open rails let morning sun pass rather than block it, so the piece sits comfortably near a window or against a plain painted wall. It works with linen bedding in undyed tones, a timber bedside table, and a textured floor rug that softens the footprint. The low footboard leaves room for a bench or a folded throw at the end. Kamara works with Kenyan makers who build furniture piece by piece rather than on a line. Buying here means the frame came out of a real workshop, with the small variations in grain and tone that follow from that. It is a straightforward exchange between a maker and the person who will live with the work.
