Dawida Wardrobe

The Dawida Wardrobe is a board wardrobe handcrafted in Kenya. It was built around a simple question: how much storage can one upright cabinet hold without becoming heavy to look at. The answer is a tall, quiet form that keeps folded goods, hanging garments and small everyday objects in separate, easily reached places. The wardrobe is made from board with a smooth painted-white surface and clean, unmoulded edges. One side opens as a column of four fixed shelves; the other sits behind a single flush door with a slim brass-toned bar pull. Beneath both, two full-width drawers run the depth of the case, each fitted with a pair of matching bar handles. There is no visible ornament — the composition relies on the rhythm of the shelf spacing and the long horizontal lines of the drawer fronts. It suits a bedroom where a built-in closet is missing, a dressing corner, or a hallway that needs to absorb coats, bags and folded linen. The open shelves take stacked towels, ceramics, books and baskets, while the closed side keeps hanging clothes out of sight. Against a pale wall and a timber floor, the white surface holds light rather than reflecting it. Kenyan makers have long worked in small workshops where cabinetry is cut, assembled and finished by the same hands. Buying through Kamara connects you directly to that workshop tradition, and to a piece assembled deliberately rather than pressed out in volume.
