The Elgeyo Coffee Table is a coffee table handcrafted in Kenya from board and marble. Its form is deliberately simple: a long rectangular block that sits low and reads almost architectural in a room. The making is careful rather than decorative, with edges kept crisp and surfaces held flat so that the marble figuring does the talking. The table is constructed from board and marble. The top and sides carry a dark stone surface threaded with fine pale veining, and no two panels repeat the same pattern. A slim golden-toned band runs along the upper and lower edges, and a matching rectangular drawer front with a horizontal pull sits centred on the long side. The plinth base is recessed, which lets the whole piece appear to float slightly above the floor. A smaller open-cube side table, shown alongside, echoes the same stone top in a softer grey body. In a sitting room, this coffee table anchors a sofa or a pair of low chairs, and the drawer takes remotes, coasters and the small things that otherwise collect on a surface. The dark stone reads best against pale walls and warm lighting, and pairs comfortably with woven rugs, plants and low ceramics.
