The Eightyfold Sideboard is a low media sideboard handcrafted in Kenya from board with a marble top. It is built in stepped tiers rather than a single block, so the piece reads as two cabinets that meet across a raised bridge. The making is careful and deliberate, from the aligned quilting on the door fronts to the slim metallic banding that traces each horizontal edge. The carcass is board, finished in a soft ivory tone, and the raised upper surface is marble in cloudy pale greys and warm sand. Doors are worked in a repeating diamond pattern that catches light at an angle, drawn together by narrow vertical pulls. Between the two cabinet volumes sits an open shelf, and the whole sideboard lifts off the floor on small tapered feet. It is made for a living room wall beneath a mounted television, where the low horizontal line keeps the screen uncluttered. The closed cabinets take remotes, cables and games; the open shelf holds stacked books, a small box, an ornament. It also works in a hallway or a dining room as a serving and storage surface, with the marble top taking a lamp or a tray.
